Policy Options for Regulating Electronic Cigarettes

Electronic cigarettes, or "e-cigarettes," are battery-operated devices, which create a vapor that users inhale. This vapor contains nicotine, flavor, and other substances.  These products resemble tobacco cigarettes. E-cigarettes have grown in popularity since they were made available in the United States in 2007.  Currently, the sale, distribution, marketing, and manufacturing standards of e-cigarettes are not restricted or standardized by federal regulation.
