Health Information Security and Privacy Collaboration
(HISPC)
Arkansas
has been recently awarded by the Research Triangle Institute International a
year-long contract to explore strategies to improve electronic health
information exchange while ensuring privacy and security. By bringing
together a broad range of stakeholders, the project will seek to 1) develop
consensus-based solutions to public and private barriers surrounding health
information exchange; and 2) identify and incorporate interoperability
standards and protocols for improved exchange of health information. The
Arkansas Center for Health Improvement (ACHI) serves as the project lead, in
close partnership with the Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services
(ADHHS) and the Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care (AFMC). It is our hope
that these efforts will pave the way for improved efficiencies, improved
access to care, decreased medical errors, enhance continuity of care, and
ultimate reduction of escalating health care costs. Through this project,
Arkansas joins thirty-three other states in the Health Information Security
and Privacy Collaboration (HISPC). This supports the U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services' aim to allow electronic health records to be
shared among health care professionals nationwide.
