Halted the progression of childhood obesity in our
state.
As a result of Act 1220 of 2003 and ACHI's Public School Body Mass Index
(BMI) assessment program, Arkansas is the only state in the nation able to
document a halt in the progression of the internationally recognized
childhood obesity epidemic. The Arkansas program has become an
acclaimed model for other states and countries to follow.
Created a smoke-free indoor environment for all Arkansans through the Clean
Air Acts of 2006. Arkansans are now protected from
second-hand smoke and the wide variety of associated health risks, at work,
in restaurants, and in other enclosed public places.
Provided a low-cost health care coverage option for
the 75 percent of small businesses in Arkansas previously unable to offer
health care to their employees.
ARHealthNet, representing the
first true health care partnership between private businesses, families and
state and federal government, is a unique model for the nation to consider
in addressing the complex issue of uninsurance and health care costs.
Documented increased medical costs associated with
modifiable health risk behavior.
Working with state
government and public school employees (the largest employee group in the
state) we helped change the traditional health insurance paradigm from
paying for illness to investing in health.
Through health risk
assessment and incentives to change unhealthy lifestyle habits like smoking,
obesity, physical inactivity, non-use of seatbelts and binge drinking, state
government and public school employees are encouraged to lead healthier
lives.
